STILL IN THERE FRYING

Nip and tuck, it was, I tell you, as to whether I would make it out for a walk today. The weather was spitting all day. By this evening, there was actual rain. But my jeans really needed washing and I was getting low on socks, so I thought the wash cycle was about the right amount of time to do a loop. I made it out of the house about 3:00. The heavier rain was due around 5:00. I still don't know how long or how far, exactly. Here's a map.

I generally head to the park up 10th Street, but not always. Then I go over past the bandshell to the entrance on 9th Street. I walk slightly northeast, sometimes to the green dot just near West Drive there. That's the Tennis House, and then over to the dog pond. Right now it is so filthy it looks like a field.

I was having a lot of trouble with film and filters on my iPhone today. But that doesn't look much like a pond. Anyway, just past the pond, I head south past the ballfields. They were quite underwater. I don't have winter shoes, so I had to be very careful about puddles (and then there was the issue of the rain.) I head down to West Drive and walk on that path. I called my pal Matt today. He had some surgery on Friday, so I thought he might be around. Up to Bartel Pritchard Square, then back on the path toward the bandshell.

I had a few minutes of ... well, what do you call kind of lower-level blissfulness/contentedness? I had a short nap and Cooder deigned to join me. She purred and we listened to the whoosh of the tires, as I am wont to do. A doze kind of helped.

Emmylou is getting quite bushy. She and Cooder are VERY unhappy with the recent choice of catfood, but I am afraid they, too, are going to have to learn to lump it. And they will torture me about it in the meantime. They turned up their noses at some oyster stew ... yeah, it was canned but it had oysters, half-and-half, and butter. Jeez. On a better note, Emmy is kind of settling down enough to let herself be held and petted a bit without squirming all over the place.

Yes, I am emotionally crispy. But I am still in there frying.

  1. Enjoyed sorta taking the walk with you. I've been too busy for mine lately. Starting to affect my mood. Grouchy, but this helped, despite your rain. Thanks.
